Renegades Golf Day sees 40 players take on Ocean View

Friday 19th July saw the annual Renegades Golf Day at the Ocean View Golf Course. Predictably it started late, longest drive and closest to the pin challenges were confused, with one prominent Welshman declaring that "The organisation of this event is a shambles".

Once the event got underway competition was fierce, with a Teachers RFC guest, Richard Boyd, setting an early longest drive for the men, and also hitting a good closest to the pin. Des Nash managed to bring his son's clubs instead of his own (his son is right handed, and Des is left handed), however his team mates thought that it actually improved his golf.

'Timeless' Tom Healy was on fine form, showing his legendary leadership skills with encouragement like "I got this", "J you are sh!t" and "That's why I am the Captain". Paddy Furlong showed his immense power by denting a Taxi with his tee shot on the Par 3 9th.

Overall the event was a great success, with the following awards handed out (after more cries of "Shambles"):

  • Men's Longest Drive: Paddy Furlong
  • Men's Closest to the Pin: Richard Boyd
  • Women's Longest Drive: Lizzie Duncan
  • Women's Closest to the Pin: Epic failure - no-one!
  • Overall Team winners: Paddy Furlong, Brid Reynolds, Lewis Brien, Emily Sisa

A big thank you to Lewis Brien for organising the golf, and Brid for the post-golf food at The Beach Bistro. See you all next year!
