Renegades Go Top Of The League

Renegades gained a vital win against the Police and crucially denied the opposition a losing bonus point in a top of the table clash at National Stadium. A strong start from the Renegades led to forwards and backs linking well for a try in the corner. The Police missed several opportunities to get back in the game with their backs struggling in the windy conditions. Fly half Barry Archibald made up for his missed conversion with a beautifully struck penalty later in half to make it 8-0 at half time. The Renegades dominated the Police pack in second half with some good driving line outs eventually leading to a try to make it 15-0. Renegades indiscipline, including a few stray boots from the scrum half, then allowed Police to put some pressure on the Renegades try line and cross the whitewash to make it 15-5.. The Renegades pack put more pressure on the Police line out at the end of the game, but were unable to get a third try. Tries were scored by Greg Garside and Des Nash. A win for Mariners against Teachers means that the league is a two horse race between Renegades and Police who meet again on February 13th.
