Renegades continued their good form in 2016 with a big win against Mariners. With a few key players already missing in the back line, the Renegades lost Dan B during the warm up after he decided he didn't want to spend 80 minutes listening to Quigley talk about his Classic All Blacks cap. Despite the last minute reshuffle the Gades got off to a strong start, but struggled to get over the Mariners line. However, once the first try came, the Renegades dominated the game. The pack beat the Mariners at their own game with some huge driving line outs taking them deep into the Mariners 22, although a try was squandered due to the try line looking very similar to the 5 yard line. Already 3 tries up at half time, the pack continued to dominate in the second half and ran in another 4 tries. Mariners became threatening late in the game as players got tired and lazy, but a few good cover tackles kept them out until the last minute. A neat little chip and chase from the fly half gave Mariners the consolation score with the last play of the game. Tries were scored by Tom Denton (3), Kurt Thomas (2), Greg Garside and Alex Donkeyside.
In other game, Police got a bonus point against Teachers, to keep the pressure on at the top of league. Renegades meet Police in the next league game on 13th February, with Renegades currently either 2 or 3 points ahead (no one really knows).
The Ladies team beat the Mariners 1-0.
