Renegades put in a good performance against a strong Mariners team to add the Nichol Shield to their League and Mad Hatters Trophies. There will be some sore bodies on Monday morning after another physical game at the end of tough season, with Gibbler getting some nasty sunburn to the left side of his forehead. Mariners started strongly and edged to 6-0 lead with 2 early penalties. Some strong running from the Renegades forwards, brought them back in to contention with a try from Jahan. Renegades continued to put pressure on the Mariners, but unfortunately discipline let them down on several occasions, giving away penalties for being too good at tackling and too good at stealing the ball. Jahan and VagChest continued their battle for Top Try Scorer, with flanker Jamie hanging out in the backs for the entire first half, but nobody else really gave a s#!t. After the half time oranges, Renegades showed their dominance with forwards and back combining well to run in several tries. With the victory secured, Renegades took the opportunity to bring on some of the younger players including Dan Greenslade, In-Tray, Jakobe Bryant, Tony Romo, Ber-nard and some guy in scrum cap. Trae Stevens put in strong performance crashing over for a try and putting in some big tackles. Mariners kept fighting to the end and were rewarded with a late try from Dusty Springfield. In a long and passionate speech after the game, the BRFU President said "Here's the trophy". Later in the day, the Renegades held a candlelit vigil at the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach in honour of the victory.
Earlier in the day the ladies team put in another solid defensive performance in a tense semi final of the Scully Cup. Unfortunately, they lost out to a try late in extra time from Teachers who went on to win the cup.
