Renegades Austin Tour 2016

So the Renegades Tour 2016 team took to the pitch at Burr Field, Austin TX, on the afternoon of Saturday the 3rd of September. The weather was hot, sweaty and, frankly, no good for rugby - the same could be said of much of the Renegades side on the day... The opposition: the Austin Blacks 3rd XV - a formidable Texan rabble.

An exhilarating even-more-warmed-up-than-we-already-are warm-up, led by El Capitan Pettler, saw the boys looking mean and not so lean. Of particular benefit to this ragtag bunch of reprobates were the one-knee'd high knees exercise, followed closely by the goose-stepping... Had the Austin boys witnessed the warm-up routine, they might have quite reasonably re-mounted their unreasonably large trucks and just gone home out of disdain. Unfortunately, for the Renegades boys, no such luck....

With little noteworthy play, apart from some moments of cheeky brilliance from the Baum, the Renegades left narrow victors. In fact, it's fair to say that without the kangaroo springiness of Baum the result would have likely been very different. A combination of key players missing and heavy pre-match drinking, rendered the team to a state bordering on the farcical. El Presidente Nash made some excellent touches in his late 9-minute appearance, and was later heard explaining that he had further extended his record as the oldest playing Renegade in the world, ever...

TEXAS....YYEEAAAHH!!!!
