The league finally got underway after last week's games were canceled due to the devastation of Tropical Storm Karl and Renegades started the new season as they ended last one with a big win over the Mariners.
With the self proclaimed top try scorer still recovering from surgery to remove a beetroot from his arse, it was up to 80's hip hop duo Salt n Petla to push it real good in the front row. But it was a tough day for them as Mariners offered a tough opposition up front, as they always do. An early try for Dan B set the tone and the tries kept flowing from there. We can look forward to a few crates of beer after league debut tries from Dave DaRave and Dave Lister (2). The score could have been higher but Mikey the friendly ghost butchered an easy try and was denied by the video-ref after being smashed into touch by a pre-pubescent child. Other tries were scored by Jimmy Bum, Jabba the Dadda, Andrew Saltyntjes and Greg Garside. The Mariners ran in 3 tries of their own after Healy let them through for 2 and our pack was baffled by some silky skills from a Mariners prop. But it wasn't enough and the game finished 56-17 with a flawless kicking performance from Basil Archiballs (7) and Rich Chipolatas (1).
Earlier in the day, the ladies followed up there Mad Hatters victory with a 4-1 win against Mariners following 2 tries a piece for Melissa and Susie.
