Renegades had to dig deep to hold on for the win at their first away game of the season at Warwick Academy. It looked like it was going to be another comfortable win for Renegades as they eased into a 17-0 lead in the first half. Healy and Dunks rolled back the years combining well for a try under the posts and a scrap on the touch line. The lopsided posts caused a bit of confusion with Barry missing 2 conversions and Richard Saveloy aiming a drop goal at the corner flag.
The second half was a different story, with a combination of sh1te tackling and high quality refereeing allowing the Teachers dangerous backs plenty of opportunities. A great last ditch tackle from Saveloy and knock on from the Teachers winger saved us twice, but eventually the Teachers began running in the tries. On one occasion the Teachers broke out from their own 22 when the Renegades pack decided to take a water break instead of a scrum. On a rare visit to the Teachers half, the Renegades were awarded an even rarer penalty, which Barry slotted over. However, after winger Jimmy Bum was sin-binned, there was a tense finish as Teachers came back to within 3 points. But Renegades were able to hang on for the last few minutes to keep their unbeaten run alive. Tries were scored by Dunks, Phil Heaney and Greg Garside.
Earlier in the day, the ladies drew 1-1 with Teachers. Despite confusion from both sides about which one was the try line, Bermuda Bake-Off champion Ashley went over for the crucial try that ensures the Renegades stay top of both league tables.
