Three wins in Annual Festival of Renegades Rugby

Renegades won 3 out of 4 games in a high scoring Renegades Founders Day festival of rugby.

The Mens 1st team ran in 6 tries against the Bermuda select team. With Mikey away on a Saga holiday, Salt-n-Petla had to put in a full shift in the front row, but the Renegades forwards were dominant against a young Bermuda pack. It was end to end rugby for most of the game. On one occasion, the Bermuda full back made a great break only to be intercepted in the Renegades 22. The Renegades counter-attack led to a 60m run in for PK Skips. PK clearly didn't enjoy the experience as he avoided several opportunities for further long distances tries, dropping the ball after great hands from the centres created an overlap and then calling for the ball while standing 5 metres off the pitch. Mcglynn found himself with a clear run to the line after an interception on 10m line. Unfortunately his PB for the 100m is only 60m and he ran out of steam before he got to the 22. With player-coach Barry getting confused and coaching the wrong team, the kicking duties were shared by Rich Bratwurst and Frank Wheatley. Frank proved he had 2 left feet when his conversion attempt ended up behind him. New boy Charlie got himself an early try, but also passed the ball to the opposition prop for a late consolation try for Bermuda. Tries were scored by Charlie, PK, Phil Heaney (2) and Gary Wilson (2). However, it wasn't all good news as Gibbler suffered a nasty injury to his ankle. His screams could be heard from St Georges as he went down awkwardly in the first half and there are fears/hopes that his grubber kicking days may be over.

The women's team showed the strength of their squad with the 1st and 2nd teams coming away with wins against Bermuda select teams. Laura F proved she hasn't lost her speed by running in a try for the 2nd team, with Rookie Nicky adding a try for a 2-0 victory. In the 1st team game, a hatrick for Rachael made the difference in a close game. A captains try for Mullo sealed a 4-2 win for Renegades.

In the main event of the day, Renegades men's 2nd team, lost 56-28 to the Bermuda U19s in a highly entertaining 10 a side game. The team included a mixture of youth and experience, but unfortunately experienced player President Nash was unavailable after getting injured whilst joy-riding with his son. It is rumored that this was the first time that he had missed a 2nd team game since 1876. Captain Salty led the way on the field with a superb solo try, beating 6 defenders before crashing over the line and being awarded a try by the cross-eyed video ref. Boycie proved yet again that class is permanent, but catching ability deteriorates with age as he twice dropped a ball with the try line in sight. The opposition enjoyed the open space on the field which they were able to exploit with their pace and youthfulness to run in too many tries to count. But Renegades proved that they weren't only fools and horses by running in a few tries of their own. Boycie and Del-Boy making some good yards, along young centre Cedric and Venezuelan wing/lock Mauricio. Mr Maule put in few big hits and PK kept the score respectable with his 100% kicking record, maintaining his position as the most successful kicker in the club. However, the biggest cheer of the day came when Peter Dunks got put on his ass by someone young enough to be his son.

After the trophy presentations, the teams thought about taking some grapes to Bennet, but decided to go to the Beach for pizza instead.
