Renegades in 2nd place after first round

The pre-season continued with the first part of a 10-a-side tournament.

Renegades got off to a shaky start against a Mariners side who have started the year strongly. After some early Mariners tries from Dustbin Archiballs and Rory from Dublin, Renegades made a come back with tries from Des Nash and Pat Bryan. Unfortunately the Renegades kicking was again not up to scratch and Renegades lost out 14-12.

In their second game, Renegades also found themselves behind against Police after a try from English prop Dan Cole. This time Renegades were able to come back stronger scoring 4 tries to win 22-12, with all tries scored by our rookie players. Rob the Brickie riverdanced around the Police defense to score the first try. There was some controversy over the conversion, with referee Jimmy Bum unsure if it had gone over. The video ref was on holiday, so Jimmy improvised by getting Rob to retake the conversion to make sure that it had actually gone over. Rob went over for a second try and The Blair Witch Project went close after a charging run that will be giving the Police defense nightmares for weeks. The mistakes started to creep in and the game became messier than Des' forearm and JQ's bed combined. Renegades started to get frustrated, particularly Salty McSaltface who had a massive hissy fit after knocking the ball on in his own 22. Police took advantage of some sloppy defense and went over for a 2nd try. This gave the Renegades a new incentive and a great break from youngster Ceddy Ennis led to a try for Alex. Young Tommy sealed the win with a try on his debut.

With Mariners still unbeaten, Renegades needed a win against Teachers to stay in he running. Filling in for Jimmy Bum, who was on refereeing duty, Bennett let several scoring opportunities slip by ignoring massive overlaps. But 2 tries from Old Tommy sealed the win.

With 2 wins from 3 games, Renegades prepared for the Magical Mystery Party Bus tour. But the only real Magical Mystery of the day was when PK Skips managed to stop Teachers winger Corey from scoring despite being dragged 10 yards down the pitch.

The tournament continues next week with Mariners in the top spot after finishing the day unbeaten and Renegades a close second.
