Renegades come out on top as league battle goes down to last minute

The women's touch league went down to the wire on Friday night under the lights at National Stadium. Renegades were unbeaten after the first 8 games of the season, but had suffered a loss of form since Coach Sausage took over at Christmas, which allowed Teachers and Police to come back into contention. Going into Friday night only 2 points separated the 3 teams, which meant complicated permutations for the final round. Unfortunately Renegades Chief Actuary was unavailable to assist as he was playing bingo in the Beach, so before kick off the captains had a game of Countdown Numbers round to work it all out (Mullo Vorderman going for 4 big ones and 2 small ones). Renegades knew that they needed to beat Teachers and needed a Mariners side that was yet to win a game all season to pull off at least a draw against the Po Po.

However Renegades started the game slightly off pace, barely even making it in to position for the Teachers kick off. This set the tone for the first half. Movement was at an all time low and while Maeve the Rave took an unauthorized nap Teacher's winger Najee casually strolled through for an early Teachers lead.

It was a tense game with both sides knowing that they needed the win to stay in contention for the title. Both sides were putting in some aggressive touching usually only seen in Cafe Cairo. Thankfully some solid defending by Ash (get out of my f%#king face) Godek for the remainder of the first half meant that the ladies were only down 1-0.

As they made their way to the sidelines at half time, Captain Mulli pulled out a speech not heard since the battlefields of Stirling and reminded them that they weren't out for a f%#king Sunday stroll! Up stepped the real Renegade Masters for the second half. With Coach Sausage distracted, Quinlyn Cassidy took over the coaching duties and made an immediate impact. The Club's new favourite Welsh import evened the game at 1-1 within minutes of the restart.

Maeve, Rachel and Susie found their legs and began to run the Teachers ragged, and soon enough a wide hole appeared for Amy to slip through with ease. A quick show and go sent the defense the wrong way and Amy ran it in from 40m showing why she is the all time best Mcglynn ever to play for Renegades (closely followed by Kilian and Lorchan).

The Ladies held on to their 2-1 lead for the remaining minutes but it wasn't time to pop any bottles in celebration just yet. New pacemakers were quickly fitted on the sidelines and the ladies watched the agonizing clash between the Mariners and Police. Mariners had full support of the Renegades except for Judas Bum who chose to support his bird instead.

The game was played in similar manner to the previous game, with plenty of unnecessary roughness from both sides. After being robbed of their win the previous week, the Gods were finally in the Renegades favour and with Terry thankfully nowhere in site the Mariners held Police to a 1-1 draw. Dogs all over Devonshire were on high alert as Renegades ladies celebrated their first league title in 5 seasons.

Later in the evening 5 of the Renegades men's team represented Bermuda against New York Athletic Club, with Jabba the Quigley opening the scoring for Bermuda. Mikey sacrificed his knee hair for the cause, but it had grown back by half time. After a strong first half from Bermuda, NYAC won 28-14.

Next week both teams start their campaign for the treble when they take on Mariners in the semi final of the cup.
